College Friends Having Fun

26 October 2012 – 2:00 pm
Wind: N/E/S 3-5 knots
Weather: 56 degrees, partly cloudy

A surprisingly beautiful day! The rain stopped and the sun showed itself just in time for the sail. The winds were light and shifted around the lake, so we spent most of our time sailing upwind. These girls, who have known each other since college (in my home state), shared some interesting and entertaining stories! As always, it was a great day to be on the water. We’d love to see these girls back again!

Brand spanking new

19 Oct 2012 – 2:30 pm
Wind: NE 6-11 knots
Weather: 57 degrees, overcast

We took our brand new jib out for her maiden voyage and it was awesome! The new sail is significantly bigger than the old one, giving us a lot more speed and even better handling.

A surprise worthy of 25 years

19 Oct 2012 – 5:30 pm
Wind: NE 6-8 knots
Weather: 57 degrees, overcast

Weeks of planning culminated in a beautiful night and a fantastic surprise for this Arizona couple. While they had dinner at Ivar’s Salmon House on the north end of the lake with a view of the Space Needle, I sailed up to the dock and covertly met her brother to get the camera, iPod and ring. After dinner they walked out on the dock, we chatted, and they went on a romantic surprise sailboat ride. Shortly after sailing away from the dock we started the music, they went to the bow, and he re-proposed to his wife of 25 years. The track marks the spot where he popped the question. They cuddled up front for most of the trip, then as we headed back, we unfurled the headsail and sailed Solana fast. We were even able to sail the entire trip, without using the motor once.

Learning the Ropes

10 Oct 2012 – 5:30 pm
Wind: NW 3 knots
Weather: 55 degrees, overcast

We had a fun light wind sail today. The passengers were very inquisitive – we talked about lots of different nautical sayings and had a mini sailing lesson. Both did a great job driving the boat.

2 Oct 2012 – 6:00 pm
wind: NNW 8-14 knots
Weather:62 degrees, Clear

Another surprise on the boat, someone almost always is surprised with a boat ride. They were a great couple and he was very inquisitive, and really enjoyed sailing. They also asked for the exciting ride, which is always my favorite. There were a couple other sailboats on the lake and we raced one of them for a bit.

Double Date

24 Sept 2012 – 6:00 pm
wind: N 2-5 knots

This was a great sail with two couples on the boat. We mostly sailed the north end of the lake, avoiding the fishing nets. and sailing in the channels. As they said, “a perfect night out on the lake.”

A Perfect Night

20 Sept 2012 – 6:30 pm
wind: S 4-6 knots
Weather: 70 degrees, clear w/ some cloud cover

The day started with a lot of fog on the lake but by 6pm it was a warm and beautiful day. The boat was ready and waiting when these two showed up for their private sail out on the lake. The weather was cooler that expected but it turned out to be the perfect night. They gave me the camera, and I had a lot of fun taking pictures and sail, while the couple enjoyed their own private island in the middle of the city. Hopefully they will send us some more pictures. I am always honored when I the witness to an engagement. It is such a beautiful moment. We marked the exact position where she said yes on the track below.

A full day adventure!

20 Sept 2012 – 10:30 am – 8:00 pm
wind: S & N 1 – 6 knots
Weather: 65 degrees, Overcast with a little misty rain.

I love being on the water. Today was a lot different than forecast. It didn’t exactly rain, but it wasn’t sunny either. We had a great time, started the day with a lesson on lake union, then headed out through the locks and sailed on Puget Sound. Then returned as the sunset. What a beautiful way to spend the day. Sailing and a wonder conversations.
