    Learn to Sail

    Never stepped on a boat? Want to learn how to sail or improve your skills? Want to join our boating club? Gain confidence and explore your salty side! These lessons are for you.

    Most of our classes are 2 hours long. We start by reviewing the goals of each sailor and material in the book "The Complete Sailor." Then prepare the boat, and review safety, set out sailing.

    We keep our class sizes small, no more than 4 people per session. (one-on-one classes are also available). This ensures that all students will have an opportunity to pull lines, trim sails, and pilot the boat.

    Our classes:

    Intro to sailing: 2hrs $80/person

    Learn the basics of sailing, points of sail, and how a sailboat uses the wind to move. Tacking & gibing will be taught with hands-on instruction. All students will have a chance to pilot, pull lines, and trim sails.

    Points of sail & setting a course: 2hrs $80/person

    In this lesson we will build on skills taught in the first lesson. We review the points of sail and how to use them to navigate around the lake. This lesson will focus on how to use the points of sail and trimming the sails.

    Spinnaker Practice: 2hrs $80/person

    Does the spinnaker confuse you? Are you unsure how to rig & set it? Do you want to understand spinnaker trim better? This hands-on course reviews several types of spinnaker and how to safely set & douse them.

    Sail Trim: 2hrs $80/person

    Want to get more speed? Want to understand the difference between heavy winds and light winds sail trim? The basics of using the boom vang, outhaul, flattening reef, and much more will be covered.

    Custom/ Private Lessons: 2hrs $120/person

    Just bought a boat? Have an existing boat? Want to learn how to handle in heavy weather or learn how to rig & fly a spinnaker? Confused by knots, splicing, electrical systems, sail repair? Let us know your goals. If it’s on a boat we can help you understand it! We will create a lesson specifically for you.

    Basic boat handling: (6)-2hrs sessions $380/person (upon completion, eligible for Boat club rental)

    Want to join our Boat Club? or get out on the water in your own boat? This class if for you.  Learn how to handle a boat, including raising the sails, sail trim & steering, basic seamanship, docking, saftey & rules of the "road".  This is a series of (6)- two hour lessons, and will quaifiy you for our boat club. Once you pass the checkout test you will be able to rent a 20’ sailboat .

    The internet is full or resources to learn about sailing, including treminology, and science behind sailing.  One of the biggest things you can do to prepare for sailing is to start noticing and seeing the wind.   Where is it, where is it going? Can you wind then wind with your eyes closed?  After all it is how we move the boat.
